The Ministry of Transport of Thailand (MoT) is the ministry of the Government of Thailand responsible for the development, construction, and regulation of the nation’s land, marine, and air transportation systems. Department of Land Transport (DLT) is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Transport. Its main functions are to improve transportation laws, vehicle regulations, improve public transportation facilities and develop land transportation networks. it’s one of the authority for motor vehicle type approval in Thailand.
The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is the national standards organization for Thailand, established under the Ministry of Industry (Mol) by virtue of the Industrial Product Standards Act B.E. 2511. According to the Act TISI has, as its governing body, the Industrial Product Council which controls its policy, sets the priority of standards to be prepared, recommends qualified persons for the Minister to appoint to TISI technical committees arbitrates and awards licenses under certification scheme. TISI’s activities include standards development, product certification, standardization etc
Motor vehicle type approval procedure in Thailand includes Safety Certification and Emission Certification, which are respectively responsible and supervised by DLT and TISI. In addition, the on-board wireless communication system and radar systems are supervised by the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand (NBTC)
