The Vietnamese motor vehicle type approval authority is Ministry of Transport of Vietnam (MT) and its subdivision Vietnam Register (VR). For both imported and local assembled motor vehicles there are type approval procedures need to follow.
The market access management authority for automotive products in Vietnam is the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and its subordinate Motor Vehicle Registration (VR), with the certification mode of vehicle type certification. Mainly based on: The Minister of Transport issued on the manufacture and assembly of motorcycles and mopeds in Vietnam type certification regulations of Decision No. 118/2017/ND-CP dated October 17., 2017. The regulations of type certification of motorcycle and engines manufactured and assembled in Vietnam Circular No. 45/2012/TT BGTVT dated October 23, 2012. The regulations of type certification of motor vehicles and engines manufactured and assembled in Vietnam Circular 30/2011/TT-BGTVT dated April 15, 2011. The regulations of type certification of motorcycle and engines imported to Vietnam Circular No. 44/2012/TT-BGTVT dated October 23, 2012. The regulations of type certification of motor vehicles and engines imported to Vietnam Circular No. 31/2012/TT BGTVT dated April 15, 2011.
Since the year of 2018, Vietnam Register has mandated certification for aftermarket auto parts includes helmets. glazing, wheels, rearview mirrors, tires, headlamps, fuel tanks, batteries, interior materials, pressure vessels, power batteries, etc.
