To support the business community, associations, and industries in Binh Thuan province in handling and responding to foreign trade remedy investigations and utilizing trade remedy tools to protect legitimate interests when engaging in new-generation FTAs, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), in collaboration with the Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Thuan province, organized a workshop titled “Introduction to Trade Remedies” on March 28, 2024. The workshop was attended by 120 delegates, including members of the Binh Thuan Provincial Steering Committee for International Integration, civil servants responsible for international economic integration from various departments, agencies, and localities, lecturers and students from Binh Thuan College, and leaders from industry associations, businesses, cooperatives, and local business establishments.

In his opening speech, Mr. Bien Tan Tai, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Thuan, emphasized that new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) have opened numerous opportunities for export and are significant for Vietnam’s integration and economic development, particularly for Binh Thuan province.

During the workshop, speakers provided an overview of the legal procedures for trade remedies under the FTAs that Vietnam is a part of, the practical implications and impacts of trade remedies on protecting domestic industries, strategies for dealing with foreign-initiated trade remedy investigations on Vietnamese exports, and addressed concerns from agencies and businesses regarding the implementation of FTAs. Additionally, they shared information, experiences, and challenges related to production, business activities, and trade remedies.

Through the workshop, government agencies, relevant units, and businesses in the province gained a deeper understanding of trade remedies and how to effectively implement them in accordance with international commitments. This understanding helps them leverage benefits from FTAs amidst deepening international economic integration, thereby gradually enhancing the local competitiveness and contributing to the stable socio-economic development of the province.

On this occasion, delegates also received a comprehensive overview of FTAs and their impacts on Vietnam’s economy, along with guidance and support for local businesses to seize new opportunities and effectively utilize these agreements in the future.
